The music of Cara is directly from her battle with mental illness, insomnia and other health issues. In an interview with Reuters she declared her album to be "half tumultuous" and "half perfect". Therapy helped her grow and advises people to seek assistance if needed. Alessia Cara has been a Canadian artist since the year 1996. Her parents are of Italian descent. Her parents gave her an instrument when she was 10 and this ignited her love for music. After three years, at 13 years old, she started to sing her favorite tracks via YouTube. It was an excellent opportunity to show others that she possessed both ability and determination. One of her covers, Sweater Weather, was the one that got her attention.
