Cara has a reputation for her messages on mental health, kindness and self-love into her music. She has been struggling with insomnia and anxiety, which affected her life. Reuters said that she described the album "half tumultuous, half perfected". She found that therapy made her stronger and she encourages others to do the same. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto in Canada. She was born on July 11, 1996, to parents with Italian heritage. Her parents purchased her a brand new guitar that she was able to use to further develop her passion for the music. After three years, at 13 years old, she started to sing songs she loved through YouTube. It proved to be a fantastic opportunity to show others the fact that she had the talent and the courage.
