
DeWitt began her stage career at age 13. DeWitt was a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. Then, when she was performing in summer show and was urged by the director to take part in UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as an assistant secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 period of sitcom Three's Company, a job she obtained after being cast in the second pilot episode of the show. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers in which she starred in in 1979. DeWitt began her acting career in an episode of 1984 on Three's Company. The stage was her first time back to the stage in June of 1991 when she played a part on a Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character based on her, voiced by another actress, appeared in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. She was featured in an episode Cybill. [6] She has appeared on television shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
