After starting her career as an actor, she went on to become a child model. She was nominated for the Theatre World Award for "one of the most promising actors 1956-1957" for her performance in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her film career in the year 1958 with The Light in the Forest, a Disney film The Light in the Forest The Light in the Forest, followed by Holiday for Lovers (1959) and Blue Denim (1959). The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer Female. She was nominated to the Golden Globe Award again for the most promising youngcomer of female a year later for Blue Denim.
